Infection of Anal Glands in a Ferret

Species: Ferret

Gender: Male

Age: 1.5 Years

Weight: 1.6 kg

Clinical Case

The ferret was brought in the clinic for problems with defecation. At the examination it showed a marked swelling of anal glands that were drained in general anesthesia.

Therapy

one session of MLS® Laser Therapy every two days, for a total of three applications. After one week of therapy, the right anal gland has returned to normal dimensions, while the left one was found still swollen.

The following cytological examination showed the presence of inflammatory cells and bacteria, excluding the presence of abnormal cells. The ferret was thus subjected to antibiotic treatment associated with two other applications of MLS® Laser Therapy at a distance of one week. At the follow-up examination both glands were found to be normal.
