MLS® Laser Therapy Case Study
Bibi, Swan with Bite Wound
Species: Swan
Gender: Female
Age: 5 Months
Name: Bibi
Clinical Case
Bibi was brought into the clinic due to the presence of multiple bite wounds on her back, with laceration of underlying tissues and, in the most severe wound of approx. 20 cm in length, with exposure of the vertebrae.
Treatment Plan
After shaving the area in question, washing the wound with sterile saline and surgical curettage of the area, and bringing the muscle and skin flaps together using dissolvable stitches, antibiotic treatment was administered for 2 weeks (enrofloxacin) and anti-inflammatory treatment for 5 days (meloxicam).
Bibi’s owner initially did not accept a course of treatment using MLS® Laser Therapy.
However, 5 days following the event, as the situation deteriorated, use of MLS Laser Therapy with the M-VET device was included in the treatment plan.
Prior to each MLS Laser Therapy session, the area in question was disinfected and cleansed using chlorhexidine. The area was then bandaged by applying the following in order to the wounds:
- Cicatrising gel
- Gauze dressing
- Cast padding
- Cohesive elastic bandage
- Non-woven plaster
MLS® Laser Therapy & M-VET
Twelve sessions of MLS Laser Therapy were carried out using the M-VET device and standard handpiece, using the “Wound infected” scanning program the first three times, followed by the “Wound” program.
Application sequence:

- 1 per week for a further 3 weeks.
